As I’ve said many times before the key to less stress and chaos at the holidays is to stop planning in our heads and write everything down. You all liked last year’s holiday planner so much I thought I’d share another one with you this year. NPR has a great list of snacks and food for your own marathon, and there are plenty of menus online. I got a cold halfway through, so I didn’t end up making Lembas bread. Parents had tea hot toddies and mulled wine (as well as watermelon mojitos the first night, which is kind of off-brand but I’m sure the shirefolk would approve). For drinks, the kids had herbal teas or juice. Dessert was Mount Doom lava cakes (brownie sundaes). Dinner was Denethor’s roast chicken and strawberries (we don’t like tomatoes). Return of the King snack was Keebler elf cookies. Dessert was afternoon tea lemon lavender muffins. Snack was dead marshes dip and Fanghorn forest veggie tray (broccoli and cauliflower). The Two Towers: dinner was fish and po-tay-toes chips with Entish asparagus. Snack was “Sting” pretzel sticks since the grocery store didn’t have pretzel rings. Second breakfast was lit’l smokies sausages. Fellowship of the Ring: first breakfast was French toast with a raspberry compote, strawberries and bananas with nice crispy bacon. LOTR marathon meals! We watched the extended edition of the trilogy with our tweens for the past 3 evenings, with themed dinners, snacks, and desserts. What are your favorite methods for time management? I’ve been using this quarterly calendar since 2015 as a family planner, color-coding events and appointments for each family member. We can see the whole year at a glance, and I use it daily! It also works really well for planning out projects.
